Hello! Welcome to my Etsy shop.

All of my items are handmade by me, Elycia Freeman from start to finish. This is my full time career, though it hardly feels like work. I absolutely love what I do. I also run a farmstead business (Well House Farmstead).

I first discovered the art of ceramics when I was a very young, firing oven bake clay in the household oven and glazing with paints. By no means did I fall solely in love with ceramics at this point. I explored every form of DIY, craft and art I could get my hands on: crochet, cross stitching, pressing flowers, scrapbooking, painting, photography, drawing, wood working, pastry decorating, sewing, etc. As a child I also fell in love with the nature, traveling to southern Illinois yearly for family vacations. I also loved being raised on our 3 acre farm.

I was able to really jump into these interests after moving to Carbondale, Illinois. I graduated from Southern Illinois University with degrees in both Ceramics and Graphic Design. I also received a minor in Art History. After college we settled down amongst fellow artists, farmers, entrepreneurs and an Amish community. My husband, 2 dogs and I live on 10 acres in a 1000 sq. ft home that we built with our own hands. I love working in my small, efficient studio, 300 square foot of space. Often times I work outside enjoying the quiet noise of the nature and farm animals around us. I enjoy the company of sheep, chickens, fox, rabbits, birds and squirrels as they venture near by me as if to see what I am doing, and sometimes to taunt our pups. I just recently updated our studio space with heating and cooling. However we do our best to take advantage of the heat from the kiln firings, the windows & doors to cool down and recycling water that I use. I recycle paper, bubble wrap and cardboard and reuse shipping supplies from local businesses. I enjoy the challenge of adapting to my small work space and wasting less. I often find ways to build my own tools to help in my process.

I find my inspiration from the nature all around me. I use a lot of animal, insect and floral imagery in our work. I also tend to work with small, detailed items. I believe the details make all the difference. I am amazed by all of the very small textures, patterns and cooperative details that make up the larger beauty of the world around me. I am also find inspiration from my customers. Over the years I have followed their lead, offering more options to personalize items. I love that people care enough about each other to find the perfect gift for that special person, to remember that special day.

Like when I was young, I still explore every DIY and crafty venue I can get my hands on. We raise sheep, chickens, veggies, herbs, fruits, nuts and berries. We brew beer, bake, cook, hike, play Frisbee golf, bocce, mushroom hunt, camp, fish, and more. We are always up to something. Follow me on Facebook.
